Updated Pictures

March 30th, 2017 by

So here’s pictures of today. His bruising has gone down we noticed…but this is the oozing I’m talking about. The puppy pad near his elbow has a blotch of it. There have been between 5 and 10 blotches like that each changing and we swap them out about twice a day. It seems like a lot of fluid for him to be losing.

In looking at these it does look like a seroma to me, but again, I’m not a vet and even a photo may not tell the whole story. The drain hole caught my eye as being a bit large, but it could just be the angle of the photo.

What exactly did your vet say when they looked at him? And how recently did they examine the area?

For your own peace of mind, keep your vet in the loop (remember to get those additional pain meds we talked about in the Forum topic) and if you are still uncomfortable, find another vet if at all possible who can look at him.

Well his regular vet examened him yesterday afternoon and said that everything was looking as it should (minus the blood on him) and that it should be healed up by Friday. He gave another round of antibiotics but didn’t give us pain meds as he said Char doesn’t need any “/

Do you have access to ANY other Vet in your area?

That’s a lot of solid red blood. Although the bruising is still definitely there, it doesn’t look quite as dark!

I’ll hop over to thr forums. Maybe you have more of an update as far as getting pain meds and getting this drainage checked out. I was lucky in that, although my Happy Hannah had a seroma, it never needed a drain and finally absorbed.

In my gut, I just feel this has gone on too long without any intervention of some sort. Not anything thst can be resolved, but just not sure you are being guided towards thst resolution!

One quick observation. Is it possible Charlie’s collar is too close to the incision? Just wondering if it was touching his surgery area and possible causing an owwee.

Cheering for that sweet boy! 🙂

    Hugs!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Take a deep breath! It can never hurt to get a second opinion if you can afford it. If financing is an issue definitely apply for the care credit it saved Royal’s life! If credit is an issue talk to a family member about opening up a care credit in their name for you with you being authorized to use it before you rule out this. Royal went through this in January and also had to have a drain put in. Pro tip: as long as they aren’t licking at it apply a small amount of Vaseline around the area the dark pink fluid is draining on NOTE DO NOT APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE DRAIN we left about two inches from it. The Vaseline will cause the liquid to bead off (it should be dark pink, royals scared us too because of how much it drained but it did go down). Part of why it looks so gruesome is because it’s almost staining the skin. The bruising will go down. Looks like there isn’t any infection at the surgery site which is GREAT. We were worried about the fluid draining too but our vet explained to us it was a good thing actually that it was draining out. Does your pup seem to be whimpering in pain or not eating? Drinking water? Keep in mind you’re probably more freaked out about it than your dog is. Royal was on gabapentin and tramadol for pain. If you check out Royals page you’ll see what I mean about the drain.
